Essentially, I am wondering what has the greater popularity about campus and town in general. Also, if a few of you would be so kind as to give some merits and flaws to each system, I would be quite grateful.

40K is a skirmish based game, smaller units that are spread out and big vehicles. Less overall figures needed.
WHF is a mass battle games. Units are regiments of 5 to 50 sometimes more, that need to remain bases to base within the regiment. Fewer vehicles, but more figures used.
both games are character driven; but i like WHF more because of the regiments being close order and that the game has flanks and rear that can be attacked, something that 40k does not.

Typically, 40K players outnumber WHFB by about 2 to 1. Fantasy players tend to be older, more experienced, and loyal as the larger numbers of models needed means it takes a bit more patience, painting, and cash. I started with FB, but love the better modeling and terrain options of 40K. I also like the idea that a lowly trooper with a lascannon can still vaporize a nasty hero. Same trooper facing a dragon is called . . . lunch.
